And the Journey Continues

OASIS continues to make her way across the Atlantic but the weather has been anything but cooperative.  In fact, far from diminishing, the storm has gotten worse and they are now facing significant wave heights of up to 35 feet.  Some peak waves exceed 60 feet.  Nature is certainly impressive.

Captain Bill chose to take the southerly route to Ft. Lauderdale.  However, it turns out that when you start in Finland, even the “Southerly Route” requires you to spend time in the North Atlantic.  He is constantly adjusting his course and speed to accommodate what will probably be the only time in OASIS’s life that it will face such a storm.

Notwithstanding the weather, the entertainment department continues to prepare.

  • The ice skaters are rehearsing in Studio B and that appears to be going very well.
  • In the main theatre, they are putting up all the staging and scenery, etc. Unfortunately, this prevents the performers from rehearsing on the stage and it looks like the cast won’t even get access until early next week. In the meantime, they are rehearsing in other areas onboard.
  • For some reason or another, the divers are reluctant to rehearse in the AquaTheatre with 70 mph relative winds. Apparently, massive waves, heavy rain and 70 mph winds have put a damper on their activities.

  1. …. and nature is to be respected. It was enjoyable to hear who Captain Wright described the rough seas and that safety is number one.
We are honored and thrilled to be on the preview cruise Nov. 20-22, and I’m starting to tingle all over from the anticipation of boarding what should be the 8th wonder of the world.
Thanks so much for your blog — for those of us who don’t have time to follow the day to day activity, I can sit in an airport and feel like I’m participating in the experience when I have time to catch up.

  2. Protect the cupcakes!!!

Kidding aside, wishing you all much calmer seas and far less rocking and rolling (unless it’s in the Blaze Nightclub!) in the days ahead… until then, I’ll take some Dramamine in your collective honor.

  3. This is an urgent message for Mr. Fain!

    Dear Richard Fain,
I have a big request for you! Is there any way possible that my family and I can get onboard Oasis of the Seas when it arrives in Fort Lauderdale on November 11th?
I am Ten years old andI have been studying daily from mid-2008 to learn more and more about Oasis of the Seas! I am a very big fan of Royal Caribbean and Oasis of the Seas. I’m loyal to Royal!
This would mean so much to me!
    Thank You!

  4. Excellent! Its a credit to the ship and her designers that she is coping so well. It is a shame really that this is the only time she will likely experiance such conditions. I think it would be rather fun to be on such an amazing ship in rough weather.

  6. Congratulations Mr. Chairman on a beautiful new vessel!
I returned from my fourth cruise with RCI this September on Liberty of the Seas. I will not go to any other cruise line because each vacation has left us with many wonderful memories! I cannot wait to set sail aboard Oasis of the Seas in the near future. It has been a great experience having the opportunity to follow the construction of Oasis and Allure of the Seas online.

  9. Commenting on Lisa statement about a charge for cup cakes. Couldn’t post on her blog

I am a little confused about charging for cup cakes. Richard Fain said the other day in his interview with Travel People specifically that there would be no charge for cup cakes. Did the chairman misspeak?

  10. …just got off the Millennium on an 11-day “update” website cruise. It was truly wonderful. Next–I booked my whole family (Christmas present) on the Oasis for Dec 1 so they can experience this wonderful ship. Don’t usually do “ships” but you can bet that there are plenty of photos and comments will appear on my website on the Oasis–even as we cruise–as I consider it a destination. Thanks for the blogs..have kept on them since the beginning and have never been so excited to sail!

  11. I must say that after sailing on Soveriegn of the Seas & Freedom of the Seas I am so excited to see & hear all of the info on the Oasis. I must say that as a disabled person who is a full time wheelchair user when I read that you have made a loft suite accessible I must give you kudos for being there always for the disabled!!! I mistakenly booked a Carnival Cruise for 2010 (1st & last )(lets just say there customer service is not handicap friendly to me). Both of my Royal Caribbean cruises I felt that I was well taken care of. If you need someone to try out that handicap suite my husband & I waould sure be glad to!!

  12. Dear Capt. Bill and Richard Fain,
We also will be on the first Halloween cruise in Oct., 2010. We are following your progress each day and look forward with excitement to cruise on the Oasis. Also, we would like to see her when she arrives in Ft. Lauderdale. Will you have an opportunity for the public to see her before her first sailing? Would we be allowed to enter the port to view the ship? Or, be an invited guest to view the ship.

    With warm regards,
    Norman and Ruthann Swiatek

  13. My wife and I are going to be in Fort Lauderdale/Miami towards the end of next week for a cruise on the Liberty. Since we’ll be in town, we like to get a glimpse of the Oasis. Are there any great places to view the ship? We are on the Oasis this coming April and would love to get to see her ahead of time.

    Thanks

  15. Would like to have a day when the Oasis arrives that the public can tour the ship before it sails again. If you have never been on a ship it would be nice to see what is there.

  17. Glad to see Oasis is now out of the bad weather. Hopefully, the aqua cast wil now be able to dip their toes in the pool and begin their rehearsals. My son is among the cast, and having the thrill of a lifetime with this experience.

The daily video clips from the Captain are a wonderful idea, to showcase the many great features of this grand lady.

We look forward to tomorrow’s update and beyond, and hope to experience Oasis for ourselves next May.

  18. It is very exciting to be able to watch the videos from this magnificent ship as she makes her way across the Atlantic! This ship has captivated my attention since first learning about it. I was on the Soveriegn of the Seas the summer of it’s first year and my husband and I have been on one other cruise. I hope that one day we will be able to cruise on the Oasis of the Seas. The town we live in is on a port city on the Inland Seas-the Great Lakes where shipbuilding was a large part of the history here. I can just imagine what the captains of old would say if they could see this ship today!! Congratulations!

I would like to know why you say that captain Bill “is constantly adjusting his course and speed to accommodate what will probably be the only time in OASIS’s life that it will face such a storm”.
    Thanks!! and congratulations again!.
